When using Internet, one of the most important things is managing your passwords. Although there are many password managers available along with the default password manager in web browser, they lack many features like better security, sync between multiple devices etc. Dashlane is a new password manager available for Windows and Mac and comes with an easy to use interface and also loaded with features. Dashlane can store your passwords securely and encrypted with on your local PC or on the cloud and sync between the devices. Cloud Storage has the advantage that you can use it on other devices as well, but sync is not mandatory as the app will store everything on your PC.
The app is compatible with Google Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer and you can import your passwords when you install the app. It also offers you to delete the stored browser passwords, once the import is complete. To open any password stored in the app, you need to specify the master password, this means even if someone got access to your PC with Dashlane open, they will not be able to see any passwords or change the options.
The security dashboard is a good option, which specifies if the password strength is safe or unsafe. It allows you to automatically log in to websites without the need to remember or type your passwords.
The app also has a payment option where you can set your debit card or credit card details and it can be used to purchase products on the Internet in a few clicks on any website and keep track of all your purchases. The payment details are never synced to the cloud even if you choose to sync passwords.
There is also option to save your personal information in case you want to fill them online easily. In short, Dashlane stores addresses, phone numbers, passport numbers, credit card info and more in a secure vault and sync them between multiple computers. Dashlane has a web interface if you want to access them online.
Overall, Dashlane looks promising, but since it in its initial days, so might not be a complete replacement for apps like LastPass.
That’s not an alternative. It’s just a compromise!
A real alternative is KeePass!
Everything else is also a compromise!
