Foursquare is a very popular location based social site while allows you to share your current location with friends. There are Foursquare apps for almost all mobile platforms including iOS, Android, Windows Phone etc. Now with the release of Windows 8 coming close, we might see many tablets also getting released. The developers of the popular 4th and Mayor app for Windows Phone has created an awesome Foursquare client for Windows 8 which is designed for touch based devices. You can now check in to your favorite locations from Windows 8 tablets.
The home screen has options like the mobile version, check in, see what your friends are doing and also explore local place.
The explore place is divided into different categories and you can get the local places using this feature. When you select the check in option, it populates the list of nearby places and you can easily check in. Similar to the Windows Phone version, there is a quick check in as well as a normal check in.
Although the app is mainly designed for tablets, it works well on desktops as well. The interface of the app is very good and easy to use.
Features
- Check in to nearby locations
- See what your FourSquare friends are up to.
- Explore what’s around you
- Search for places nearby
- Get a reminder to check-in when you’re at a new location, even if you’re not using the app (can be disabled in Settings).
- Read and share tips about local hot spots
The only downside of the app is that it is not a free app, you need to pay $1.99 for the full version, although there is a trial. But if you are a Foursquare addict, then this is probably the best designed app.
