Many of the downloadable zip files have DIZ (file_id.diz) and NFO files. Although these files are readable with Notepad, GetDiz is a freeware which is specially designed to read thee kind of files. GetDiz can correctly display the ASCII art in these files. GetDiz can also replace Notepad while maintaining an incredible speed, ease of use, small size and a vast amount of options.
GetDiz allows you to launch links and configurable background/foreground colors and fonts. GetDiz also lets you automatically place highlighted text in the clipboard, auto-highlight keywords from a list you define, and reveal formatting characters. This freeware has lot of other features which can be seen from the image below.
GetDiz is definitely good replacement for Notepad which is fast and lightweight.
Nice. A small and simple program is always a great software.
I am using it and a fan of this small tool since more than one year…. when I saw this post, my opinion was 🙄 . I use the version 2.6, and the one shown in snap is quite new one with more options….
All these Notepad replacements are in news these days – is Notepad that bad? I guess it does everything that it’s made for and it’s not enormous as well.
I always used to wonder why the files are of .diz and .nfo extension and why not .txt. I never knew there was a reader for that too.
@Ashutosh: Notepad is okay but an alternative never hurts right? 😀
