If you are not able to organize your huge music collection, then Picard Tagger might just be the right program you are looking for. MusicBrainz Picard is a free MP3 file tagger that can identify track information by comparing an audio track’s “unique digital fingerprint” to the information in the MusicBrainz database. It is based on a tagging concept that is centered around album or release information for groups of tracks and will help in identifying individual tracks within that framework.
This software is specially useful when you rip tracks from an audio CD and most of the cases tracks will be named a track1 etc. Picard creates a patented and unique digital fingerprint for audio files that it processes and compares it to the MusicBrainz database in order to identify it. This database is user maintained and it has around 392772 artists, 594408 releases and 6890758 tracks information as of July 2008. You can also contribute to this by creating an account.
The interface is also pretty simple to use. Picard tagger works on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
I could not live without this software!
