Previously we wrote about a feature in Vista called shadow copy by which you can restore a previous version of file or folder by right click. Now this feature is available in higher versions of Vista and not visible to home and home premium users. Although this feature is available in home version, users cannot directly access it. To solve this problem, here is a freeware, Shadow Explorer which can access shadow copy of files in all versions of Vista. ShadowExplorer allows you to browse the shadow copies created by the Windows Vista Volume Shadow Copy Service.
Vista creates point-in-time copies of your files. This allows you to retrieve older versions from files you accidentally deleted or altered. Shadow Explorer can detect previous versions of files and folders even in Home and home premium versions of Vista.
Features
- Show available point-in-time copies
- Browse through Shadow Copies
- Retrieve versions of files and folders
If you are using Vista Home or Home premium, then this freeware is pretty useful in case you have deleted files or over written file accidently. Shadow Explorer is good freeware, but not a permanent solution for back ups.
