The Windows 7 build which was released at the PDC 2008 had some features locked and was not available. These features were mostly the new UI changes in Windows 7. Rafael Rivera has announced on his blog that the additional features can be unlocked with Blue Badge, which patches the system to unlock the additional UI features of Windows 7.
Blue Badge patches the system files, so its better to take a back up of the files before applying the patch. The reason of locking the features were because of the fact that many of these features are still in development and the ones present in Windows 7 Build are not stable ones.
You need to take a back up of these files;
- \Windows\Explorer.exe
- \Windows\System32\wisptis.exe
- \Windows\System32\ieframe.dll
- \Windows\System32\shell32.dll
- \Windows\System32\stobject.dll
- \Windows\System32\TabletPC.cpl
- \Windows\System32\themecpl.dll
- \Windows\System32\themeui.dll
- \Windows\System32\powercfg.cpl
The patching is a risky process, if you still like to do, you can download Blue Badge for x86 version, x64 is not yet released.
