Google Reader is one of the most popular online RSS reader. There is no desktop version of Google Reader although FeedDemon’s latest beta version has an option to sync Google Reader. Desktop Google Reader is a free tool for Windows by which you can get all your Google reader items from your account on your desktop. It is designed to be a WPF desktop client to Google’s popular RSS aggregator service. It shows only unread items with basic viewing/deleting/starring functionality.
Another feature of this application is Outlook-like notifications for new items arriving for any of your feeds. This tool is currently in beta stage and works fine on Windows 7 as well.
The reader does not show items in different folders like the way it is shown it Google Reader, but still this utility is worth trying. The application requires .Net framework and your Google account login credentials.

I tried this out, its pretty basic, lacks a lot of features including folders which I rely upon very much, I use the desktop gadget which is pretty good and now will be switching to Newsgator since they provide full sync
