It looks like there wont be area technology area where Google wont have its products! After the launch of much awaited Google Nexus One, Google is now reportedly working on a new Translator Phone. This phone would have a software which would be capable of translating foreign languages almost instantly. As per Times Online article, Google hopes to have a basic system ready within a couple of years and this phone would become a revolution in communication.
Google already has a web based interface for translating languages and it is being used by millions of people around the globe. Google also has a voice recognition system and now the primary aim is to bring these two into a single interface such that any voice input can be translated to any language.
“We think speech-to-speech translation should be possible and work reasonably well in a few years’ time,” said Franz Och, Google’s head of translation services. The phone would have the effect of a human language interpreter, but the main constraint for Google would be to get the data translated as fast as possible since this is voice based.
Well, with Google’s progress in technology we never know this phone could be a reality in next few years.
