Joomla is one of the popular server software for CMS and it has lots of customization options in the form of plugins, modules and components. Installing these plugins and components is an easy job and you can do it from the installation options in the Joomla admin dashboard. But sometimes you might have encountered this error “xml file is missing in package” while installing plugins, templates and also components. This article will help you solve the error.
When Joomla version 1.5 was released back in 2007, the complete structure and functions were rewritten and as a result most of the plugins, components and templates written for 1.0 version are not compatible with 1.5. As a result when you install a template or a plugin written for 1.0, most of the times it might throw this error “xml file is missing in package”.
How to solve this Error?
1. The first option would be to enable the Legacy mode in Joomla 1.5 which would make plugins and templates for version 1.0 compatible with version 1.5.
2. If you are not able to solve the problem using the first step, try unpacking the component or plugin or template archive file, many times there might be another folder in the archive preventing it from opening the XML file needed for installing.
