Places for Firefox is a system for storing bookmarks, history, and other user information about the Web. PlacesCleaner is a Firefox extension designed to perform a clean up of your Firefox database. It can select the Firefox history which are rarely accessed and also Vacuum it, in order to keep the places database clean, compact and efficient. There is both automatic mode as well as manual mode for cleaning places database.
You can access the Add-on from the tools menu and quickly clean it. The preferences allows you to select the mode of operation and also the options.
Features;
- Delete history entries which have been rarely accessed (default is twice, you can chage the value)
- Vacuum it, in order to keep the places database clean, compact and efficient.
- It also deals with website screenshot data from some buggy versions of Google Toolbar, which will cause your places.sqlite growing extremely bigger. (In some cases, the file size will reach hundreds of megabytes.)
If you select the back up places option, it will backup “places.sqlite” into “placescleaner_places.bak” in your Firefox profile directory before cleaning. If you want to restore the places database, just rename the backup file back to “places.sqlite”, and restart Firefox.
