i2OCR is a free online OCR service which can convert scanned documents, faxes, or screenshots into editable text. One of the best features of i2OCR is that it supports several input image formats including TIF, JPEG, PNG, BMP, GIF, PBM, PGM, PPM. You can either upload the file from the hard disk or specify the URL of the image file. The service can recognize multi-column documents written in 30+ languages including major ones (English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Russian, Portuguese, and Chinese).
The interface is very simple, specify the image location, select the language and click the convert button.

For better recognition, image must be at least 200 dpi. The converted text can be downloaded as text file and it may require a special editor to read if not English. The maximum image size allowed is 10MB. There isn’t any registration required nor any restriction on number of conversions.
