When it comes to free texting or SMS from web services, there are many services avialable, but most of them are paid or uses separate numbers to send SMS. Yahoo Messenger also had the feature to send free SMS, but was limited to few countries. JaxtrSMS is a new service from the founder of Hotmail, Sabeer Bhatia and allows you to send free SMS to any mobile number across the world and most important thing is that you can send these SMS using your own number. You need to download and install an app for JaxtrSMS on your mobile and register to start sending SMS.
The app is available for Android, iOS, BlackBerry, Symbian, Java and Nokia phones. We tried this service using the iOS app.
First you need to register with the service using your mobile number and then verify your account with the link you receive to your mobile in SMS. Once you have confirmed the number, you can just start sending free SMS across the world.
We tested the app on iPad with 3G and the service worked effortlessly delivering the SMS within seconds of sending it. Please make sure that you key in the correct country code while sending the SMS.
Another good feature of this app is that you can select the contacts to send the SMS directly from your mobile phone contacts.
