At the BUILD conference yesterday, Microsoft released the Windows 8.1 which comes with quite a lot of new features, apps and also improvements over the existing features. We had covered in detail about how to upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 either using the Windows Store or using the ISO.
Yesterday, Microsoft released only the Windows Store download and ISO was not made available. Today, Microsoft has finally released the ISO file for Windows 8.1. Windows 8.1 Preview ISO files (.iso) are provided as an alternative to downloading Windows 8.1 Preview through Windows Store. You should only use the ISO files if you are an advanced user and want to install the preview on another partition, another PC, or a virtual machine.
How to install Windows 8.1 Preview from an ISO file
To install Windows 8.1 Preview from an ISO file, you must first convert the ISO file into installation media stored on a DVD or a USB flash drive.
If you’re using Windows 8, follow these steps to install Windows 8.1 Preview from an ISO file:
- Download the ISO (.iso) file.
- Double-tap or double-click the ISO file.
- Double-tap or double-click setup.exe and follow the steps.

It is good to hear that Windows start button will be back with Windows 8.1. It was tough getting the hang of new Metro layout of Windows 8. My system configuration is impressive consisting of AMD FX 8350, Biostar TA990FXE, Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB, Radeon HD 7770, but if one has to get around things they are not familiar with then even a fast system will not make you productive. I hope that Windows 8.1 will be a free upgrade option for existing Windows 8 license owners.
I have read other people comments and it’s great. Now
