Micromax had announced the successor to the Canvas Turbo (Review), the Canvas Knight few months back. The device had impressive specs in the form a 5.0 Full Hd display and runs on a 2.0Ghz true Octa core processor from Mediatek with 2GB RAM. The device also comes with 32GB on-board storage, but no option to extend it via Micro SD card.
The phone also sports a massive 16MP camera which is not found in this price range. There is also a 8MP front facing camera for video calls. The phone runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and this is a version up from 4.2.1 on Canvas Turbo. Canvas Knight also ships with a 2350mAh battery. So is the Canvas Knight a really worthy successor to Canvas Turbo and does it justify the price tag?

Design, Build and Display:
The first time you look at Micromax Canvas Knight, you get a feeling that the company has moved away from the traditional design which was even found on the Canvas Turbo. The phone has a unibody design with non removable back panel and comes with power button and volume keys on the right side. The phone has dual SIM support and they are placed on the either sides. The microUSB charging port is at the bottom, while the 3.5mm audio jack is at the top. The phone is made up of metal with a glass finish back panel. The phone is pretty slim and fits perfectly in hands although it is on the heavier side.
Overall the build quality feels premium for its pricing and no real issues here. The company has also included a protective casing in the box. Related Watching: Micromax Canvas Knight Unboxing.
The display on the device is a 5 inch full HD with 1920 X 1080p resolution. While the Canvas Turbo also sported a Full HD display, it was not the best out there. But with Canvas Knight, the company has done a great work on the display. The IPS display is bright, has pretty decent viewing angles, offers vibrant colors and the sunlight readability is also good too. Overall, the display is one of the best we have seen in this price range.
Software and Performance:
Canvas Knight comes runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean which is two iterations behind the current version of Android KitKat and this is disappointing for a phone in this price range. Micromax is also not good at providing updates for devices, so chances of this device getting an update is bleak. The UI of the device is very similar to Canvas Turbo and the performance is really good. There is hardly any lag and switching apps is snappy.
The only complaint we probably have is the icons on the device which could have been better. Micromax’s UI is very similar to the core Android, so not much of customizations. The phone comes with options to manage the dual SIM card. There is 32GB on board storage out of which 24GB is available to user and 1.97 GB is for apps. You can move the apps to internal storage although there is no micro SD expansion slot.
The phone also comes with some handy gestures which you can turn on from the settings. The call quality was pretty good and so is the reception. The external speakers have pretty decent output and the sound quality was good.
The iFloat Tray and M! Unlock app which was available on Canvas Turbo does not feature on Canvas Knight. Micromas had pre-loaded apps like BBM, Getit, Hike messenger, Opera mini, Kingsoft Office on the device. There is also M! Security app which has an antivirus and comes with built-in privacy advisor, Anti-theft, anti-spam and option to back up contacts.
The device comes with Octa core processor with 2GB RAM and hence the gaming performance is awesome. We did not see any performance issues playing games on the device. In fact you are looking for a gamin phone in the sub 20k range, we cannot really suggest a better phone than this. Related Watching: Micromax Canvas Knight Gaming Performance.
Since the phone has glass back panel, it heats up a lot when using camera for long time or playing games, which is kind of common for most phones with glass rear panel.
Camera:
The phone comes with a 16MP camera with LED flash and also a 8MP front facing camera. The camera on the device is pretty good although some of the outdoor shots were over saturated. The macro shots came very well with pretty good detail and colors closer to real life. The night shots on the device is disappointing and had lot of noise and the clarity was bad.
The camera interface has pretty good set of options to customize you phone with scenes and effects. Although the 16MP camera with LED flash is not so common in the sub 20k segment, it still needs improvement especially for low light photography.
Here are some of the samples taken with the camera.

Battery Life:
The Micromax Canvas Knight ships with a 2350mAh battery and according to the company it can deliver up to 175 hours of standby and up to 7.5 hours of talk time. On average usage, we are sure to get a day of battery life. But if you play a lot of games and watch movies, then it is sure to go down to less than a day. There is also a CPU power saving mode which limits the CPU use to conserve battery life.
Verdict:
So does Canvas Knight lives up to its pricing? In a short answer we would say yes. The phone has a brilliant display, blazing fast performance, decent camera and excellent build quality and there isn’t a real competitor in this price range with high end specs. But having said that there is still room for improvement and the biggest issue is the software which is dated and there is no updates for the device. Overall for a price for Rs 19999, Micromax Canvas Knight is all worth it.
