Xiaomi’s first smartphone in India, the Mi3 (Review), was a huge success, but the company stopped the production of this device to make way for the budget phone, the Redmi 1S. Xiaomi announced that Redmi 1S will go on sale on Flipkart on September 2nd for Rs 5999 and will have the same sale pattern which was followed for Mi3.
The Redmi 1S comes with impressive specs for its price and it features a 4.7 inch HDs display (1280 X720p) and runs on 1.6Ghz Quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with 1GB RAM. The device also features 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage which is expandable via microSD card to 64GB. The phone also has 8MP rear camera with flash.
Here is the unboxing of Xiaomi Redmi 1S.
Here is the unboxing video.
On the build quality front, the device is really good and feels great in hands. It has a matte finish rear panel and the usual set of hardware buttons.
The right side houses the power and volume keys with 3.5mm audio jack on the top and micro USB charging slot at the bottom.
The rear panel houses the 8MP camera with flash and speakers. At the bottom, you can see the MI logo.
The device supports dual SIM card and SIM card 1 has 3G support while SIM card 2 is for 2G. Both the SIM card slots are normal SIM There is also microSD card as mentioned above. The device comes with a 2050mAh battery to power it.
Below the 4.7 inch display you have the capacitive buttons which are not backlit, but does have a red color to easily identify them.
Based on the first few minutes of usage, the device feels solid in hands with excellent build quality, fit and finish and also a brilliant display for a phone in this price point. Unlike the Mi3, the Redmi 1S runs on Android 4.3 Jelly bean with MIUI v5.
We will have detailed review of the device along with camera, gaming, benchmarks and other videos.
I feel that the 1 GB RAM for this mobile is a big let down. Waiting for the review.
