Xiaomi entered Indian mobile phone market in July with the launch of Xiaomi Mi3 and within a month they launched the budget Redmi 1S (review) which was an instant hit in India. Redmi 1S and Mi3 were sold exclusively on Flipkart and now the company has launched their third phone in India, the Redmi Note.
The device comes with a 5.5 inch HP display with IPS technology and is powered by a 1.7Ghz Octa Core processor with Mali 450GPU. The device has 2GB of RAM and also comes with 8GB internal storage which is expandable to 32GB via microSD card. The phone also comes with a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and 1080p recording. The phone also features a 5MP camera for video calls and Selfie. It runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with MIUI which is a custom UI from the company. The phone is powered by a 3200mAh battery.
We got the 3G variant of Redmi Note and here is the unboxing and the first impressions.
Here is the unboxing video of the device.
Inside the box:
- Xiaomi Redmi Note
- USB Cable
- Charger
- Manual and Warranty information
The box packing does not come with earphones, similar to Redmi 1S and Mi3.
Design wise, the phone has the power and volume keys on the left side, the microUSB slot at the bottom and 3.5mm audio jack at the top. The rear panel has the 13MP camera with LED flash, MI branding and the speakers at the bottom. The front panel houses the 5.5 inch IPS LCD HD display and above it you have the front camera and the usual set of sensors. The phone feels huge in hand as it has a 5.5 inch massive display.
The display on the device is a 5.5 inch IPS HD display (1280 X720P) with 267 pixels per inch. The display is pretty vibrant and sharp and the touch response is good. The viewing angles are also good since it has IPS display.
Below the display is the three capacitive touch buttons for home, back and multi tasking and they are backlit and offer haptic feedback.
The device is powered by 1.7Ghz Octa core processor from MediaTek with 2GB RAM. The performance looks good in the first boot and there was no lag. The internal storage is at 8GB out of which 5.4GB is available to user in the first boot. The camera interface is exactly similar to Redmi 1S and has a 13MP sensor with flash. We will have more detailed review of camera and also the gaming performance.
The device runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean which is an out-dated version of Android and it has the same MIUI v5.0 on top of it.
The overall build quality of the device is good although we would have liked the matte finish back panel. The device feels a bit heavy, but then it is acceptable since it is a budget phablet.
We will have the detailed review coming up on our blog soon, meanwhile do check out our YouTube channel for more videos on this device.
