Xiaomi announced the Redmi Note in India towards the end of November last year and there were two variants which were announced, the 3G and the 4G LTE enabled device. The 3G variant went on sale in the first week of December. Now the company has launched the 4G LTE enabled device and it is available exclusively on Flipkart.
The device comes with a 5.5 inch HP display with IPS technology and is powered by a 1.6Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor. The device has 2GB of RAM and also comes with 8GB internal storage which is expandable to 64GB via microSD card. The phone also comes with a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and 1080p recording. The phone also features a 5MP camera for video calls and Selfie. It runs on Android 4.4 KitKat with MIUI which is a custom UI from the company. The phone is powered by a 3100mAh battery.
We got the 4G variant of Redmi Note and here is the unboxing and the first impressions.
Here is the unboxing video:
Inside the box:
- Xiaomi Redmi Note
- USB Cable
- Charger
- Manual and Warranty information
The box packing does not come with earphones, similar to Redmi 1S and Mi3.
Design wise, the phone has the power and volume keys on the left side, the microUSB slot at the bottom and 3.5mm audio jack at the top. The rear panel has the 13MP camera with LED flash, MI branding and the speakers at the bottom. The front panel houses the 5.5 inch IPS LCD HD display and above it you have the front camera and the usual set of sensors. The phone feels huge in hand as it has a 5.5 inch massive display. There is no external changes to the device with respect to the design.
The display on the device is a 5.5 inch IPS HD display (1280 X720P) with 267 pixels per inch. The display is pretty vibrant and sharp and the touch response is good. The viewing angles are also good since it has IPS display. Unlike the Redmi Note 3G, the 4G LTE variant supports only single SIM card, but there is micro SD expansion slot upto 64GB.
Below the display is the three capacitive touch buttons for home, back and multi tasking and they are backlit and offer haptic feedback.
The device is powered by 1.6Ghz Quad core Snapdragon 400 processor with 2GB RAM. The performance looks good in the first boot and there was no lag. The internal storage is at 8GB out of which 5.4GB is available to user in the first boot. The camera interface is exactly similar to Redmi 1S and has a 13MP sensor with flash. We will have more detailed review of camera and also the gaming performance.
The device runs on Android 4.4 KitKat and there is no changes to the UI with respect to the 3G variant which runs on Jelly Bean and it has the same MIUI v5.0 on top of it.
The overall build quality of the device is good although we would have liked the matte finish back panel. The device feels a bit heavy, but then it is acceptable since it is a budget phablet.
We will have the detailed review coming up on our blog soon, meanwhile do check out our YouTube channel for more videos on this device.
