As expected, Xiaomi has announced the successor of the its popular budget phone, the Redmi 1S (or Hongmi 1S), the Redmi 2. The new Redmi 2 comes with 4.7 inch (1280 X 720P) IPS HD display and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 Quad Core processor with 64-bit support and Adreno 305 GPU. The phone comes with 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage which is similar to Redmi 1S.
There is dual SIM card support and runs MIUI v6 on top of Android 4.4 KitKat. The internal storage can be expanded via micro SD card upto 32GB.
On the imaging front the phone has 8MP rear camera with LED Flash, BSI sensor and 1080p video recording support and a 2MP front-facing camera, 720P HD video recording which is again similar to the Redmi 1S. The phone also has 2200mAh battery.

Price and Availability:
The phone will cost 699 CNY, which is around $112, when it goes on sale on January 9. As of now there is no mention on global launch including India. We expect the device to launch in India some time later this year (probably March or April) after the launch of Mi4 which is expected in January. We also expect the device to support 4G LTE in India when it launches as company has already launched the Redmi Note 4G in India.
As far as the pricing is concerned, we expect the device to be priced Rs 6999 since the device has 4G support.
