Samsung has been working on its smartphone OS for quite some time and now the company has announced the first Tizen OS powered smartphone in India. The new phone Samsung Z1 is a budget phone and comes with a 4-inch WVGA (800×480) PLS display and is powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core Spreadtrum SC7727S processor with Mali 400 GPU. The phone comes with 768MB RAM and there is 4GB internal storage which is expandable via micro SD card to 64GB.
On the imaging front, the phone has 3.1MP rear camera with LED flash and a front facing VGA camera. The phone supports dual SIM card.
Since this is the first Tizen OS, we are not sure how the performance is with the 768MB RAM and dual core processor. Moreover spec wise, the phone looks pretty low compared to the competition offered from Android and Windows Phones. Looking at the launch, it seems Samsung just wants to check on how good is the feedback from budget Tizen OS in a market like India.
Hyun Chil Hong, President and CEO, Samsung India Electronics at the launch mentioned,
The smartphone market in India is rapidly evolving, with many consumers using their device as their screen of choice for content including videos, television programs and video games, as well as a range of apps.
