Smartphones have become an integral part of our life, be it for emails, appointments, conference calls, video calls or social networking including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and more. Smartphone have also become more affordable these days. We spend lot of time using our phones on a daily basis and this includes checking emails, social sites along with calls and texting.
So if you feel you are using your smartphone way too long on a daily basis, here is a new app called QualityTime which tracks the usage. It is an easy-to-use Android app that allows you to monitor and get real time reports on how much time you spend on your smartphone and on your favorite apps.
Once you have installed the app, you need to create an account or log in via Facebook. The app starts the monitoring in the background and checks the apps and usage. You can see the top apps used for a particular day along with the time of usage. The app also has daily and weekly frequency of app usage. This is also shown in graphical format.
If you feel you are addicted to a particular app, there is an option to set alert after a pre-set time. Another important feature of the app is the “take a break” mode which locks you out of your apps for the time you select, with the exclusion of pre-approved apps just in case there’s an emergency. If you exit the “take a break” mode, you can also set the penalty time. The whole concept sounds interesting if you are addicted to smartphones.
You can also select any particular app and see the usage details and set alerts. If you create a QualityTime account, you will be able to see detailed device usage history for up to 6 months, and the usage information will be securely backed-up in the Cloud
Without doubt, QualityTime is a very useful app to track your smartphone and app usage. The app is available free of cost from the play store and can be downloaded from the link below.
Interesting app. Very well written, Nirmal!
Just the other day a friend and I were discussing the varied kinds of apps that are available out there these days. I found one that helps you build your resume on the phone itself.
I’m definitely going to give QualityTime a try. While I’m not addicted to my phone, I know of a few close friends and family who can benefit from this. Thanks!
