At an event in China today, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun announced the company’s affordable device, the Redmi 2A. The Redmi 2 was announced earlier this year to replace the Redmi 1S and now the company is launching yet another budget smartphone the Redmi 2A. The Redmi 2A as the name indicates is a cheaper variant of the popular Redmi 2 (Review) which was announced earlier this month in India.
Design wise, there isn’t any change to the device and it looks similar to the Redmi 2, but what changes is the hardware. The Redmi 2A is powered by 1.5GHz Leadcore L1860C quad-core Cortex A7 processor with 1GB RAM unlike the Redmi 2 which is powered by Snapdragon 410 Quad core processor.
Other than the processor, rest all features remain the same. The device also sports the 8MP rear camera and 2MP front camera along with Android 4.4 KitKat and MIUI 6. There is also 2200mAh battery on the device. The phone also comes with 8GB internal storage which is expandable via microSD card.
