Facebook just announced their new Messenger standalone service for web browsers and we have a new app called Messenger for Mac which brings in the Messenger service to a standalone app. So in case you are Mac OS X user, you can just download and sign in and get the standalone app for Facebook Messenger. The Messenger for Web was announced by Facebook and users can access the service from their web browsers without having to login to Facebook.com.
The app for Mac is an open source and is a third party app.
This is a free and open source project created by fans of Messenger service. The app was released within hours of the launch of Messenger.com and the developers have added some great features to the version. You can also get desktop notifications on your Mac, which can be enabled via the “gear” icon in the top-right corner of the main window.
Since the project is an open source one, the source code has been published at Github and can be accessed here.
The project was developed by Rasmus Andersson and Josh Puckett and you can download the version from here.
