Huawei, the Chinese smartphone maker has launched the company’s flagship device in the Ascend series, the new Ascend P8. The device is the successor to the Ascend P7 launched last year. The Ascend P8 follows the same metal design and chassis. The design has been made flat without any camera protrusions. The device comes with a 5.2 inch Full HD display and is powered by company’s own Kirin 920 octa-core processor which is a 64 bit processor.
The phone comes with 3GB of RAM and 16GB and 64GB of internal storage, and that is expandable to 128GB with a microSD card. There is also a 2600mAh battery which we feel is on the lower side.
The phone comes with a 13MP camera with OIS and has 4-color (RGBW) sensor and a 5MP front facing camera for selfies. The camera also has three dedicated selfie modes and also excels in low-light abilities, retaining sharpness and more details than rivals as per the company. It’ll also support dual-SIMs and dual-LTE. The phone runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop along with custom EMUI on top of it.
The handset will be offered in Champagne, Gold, Grey and Black when it goes on sale later in the year. The handset will also get its own range of accessories too, like a leather flip cover. The global P8 model will be two, standard for €499 (16GB), and premium for €599 (64GB) will be launching internationally.
Along with the announcement of Ascend P8, the company also announced a P8 Max which has a massive 6.8inch display which is again Full HD. The Ascend P8 Max also comes with a 4360mAh battery which gets you over 15 hours of video playback for locally stored files, Huawei says.
Other hardware includes the same 13-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front-facing sensor as the P8, an octa-core GPU, 3GB RAM and 64GB of on board storage, expandable via microSD. P8max is still only 6.8mm thick and weighs in at 228 grams.
The P8max will be available in the same markets as the Ascend P8, and will cost €549 for the standard model and €649 for the premium version.
