Windows 10 Preview version was released early this year and comes with host of new features and Microsoft has been releasing new builds for the preview. Some of the new features of Windows 10 include Cortana, new web browser called Microsoft Edge, improved start menu and host of other changes and bug fixes.
The technical preview version is available as ISO and users can install it on their PC even if they do not have an existing version of Windows. There was a rumour that Microsoft was planning to allow upgrading of preview to RTM.
Now, Microsoft’s Gabriel Aul replied to a query that Windows 10 Preview version will be getting free upgrade to final RTM version, so you do not have to install Windows 8.1 for the free upgrade.

Now, there is a bigger issue of license which Microsoft has not yet clarified now. Although users will be able to upgrade from preview to RTM, there is no mention on the licensing on whether the preview users will get a trial version of Windows 10 or they will get full free version.
This is probably the first time Microsoft is offering free upgrade for preview users to RTM and there are still lot of unanswered questions. Windows 10 final RTM (Release to Manufacturing) will be coming in few months and this will probably be last version of Windows.
