Micromax had announced their new flagship device, Canvas Sliver 5. The phone comes with a 4.8 inch HD display which has an AMOLED panel and is powered by 1.2Ghz Quad Core Snapdragon 410 64 bit processor with 2GB RAM. The processor is now a popular one among most of the budget smartphones. It also comes with 16GB internal storage.
The USP of the device is the thickness, at 5.1mm Micromax claims it to be the slimmest devices available right now. Here is the quick hands on with the device.
Here is the hands on video.
The device has lot of similarities with the Gionee Elife S5.1 which was announced last year and was one of the slimmest device back then. The device feels solid in hands with great finishing and quality. It is pretty light weight and provides a sleek look. This is probably the first time the company has invested in improving the looks of the phone and we would say it has come out well.
The power button and the SIM tray is on the right side, while the volume keys are on the left side. There is 3.5 mm audio jack and micro USB charging slot at the bottom. The rear panel houses the 8MP camera and LED flash along with Micromax logo. There is Corning Gorilla glass 3 protection on the display. The front panel houses the 4.8 inch HD display which is AMOLED and also has the front camera. The navigational buttons are on screen.
The camera on the phone is 8MP shooter and the interface looks pretty decent. We cannot confirm the quality of photos, but does look decent. Micromax has also moved away from the typical interface found on their phone and made it much more usable.
As you see from the image below, the camera options are plenty with normal set of features like HDR, filters, panorama and more. The front camera is 5MP unit.
The phone runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop and the UI is mostly stock and we don’t see any major customizations from Micromax. The battery capacity is at 2000mAh which is kind of low for a mid range phone. We need to test it to see how it performs in regular tasks. There is 2GB RAM and Snapdragon 410 Quad Core 64 bit chipset which ensures the performance is smooth.
The phone supports 4G LTE in India, but the downside is that there is only one SIM card support and also no micro SD expansion. The phone comes with 16GB internal storage and is very similar to what is being offered on Gionee Elife S5.1.
The phone is priced Rs 17999 and we feel it is a bit expensive, but Micromax is looking to enter the premium segment with the Canvas Sliver 5. We will have detailed review soon, so stay tuned.
