Microsoft’s upcoming OS, Windows 10, is slated for official release on July 29th and it is also offered as a free upgrade to existing Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 customers if you have a genuine license. The new OS comes with lots of new features including new start screen, Cortana, Edge browser and other improvements over Windows 8.1.
If you do not have a genuine license, you will have to buy the official version to upgrade your PC. The Windows 10 Home version is priced $119.99 and the Pro version is priced $199.99. Microsoft is now offering pre-order of these versions from Amazon. The Home and Pro versions of Windows 10 has been listed on Amazon and you can pre-order it with shipping on August 30th.
One interesting aspect about the Windows 10 box is that instead of a DVD, Windows 10 comes in USB flash drive. Now that many ultrabooks released recently does not feature DVD drives, the company has decided to go with USB stick instead of DVD.
A lot of laptop buyers are now switching to portable devices and these does not come with optical drive and this makes sense for the company to ditch DVD and include a USB stick.
If you already have Windows 8.1 or Windows 7, you will be getting the free upgrade to Windows 10 after the official release and this will be done via Windows update in a phased manner.
