Xiaomi has today launched their latest ROM for their devices, the MIUI 7. Presently all the devices from the company runs on MIUI 6 with some devices based on Android 4.4 KitKat while couple of them run on Lollipop. MIUI 7 was officially launched in China few days back and now it has been announced in India which is the global version. MIUI 7 will be based on both Android KitKat and also on Lollipop.
MIUI was first announced in 2010 and in just 5 years, MIUI has grown to over 150 million users in over 156 countries and regions. MIUI 7 comes with host of new features and improvements to overall performance and also changes to looks. So here are the new features in MIUI 7.
1. New System Design:
While MIUI is one of the highly customizable UI with tons of themes, with MIUI 7 the company is adding four new system designs to suit your taste.
These are Rose, Pink Blush, Ocean Breeze and high life. These themes cater to wide range of audience and you can always go back to default theme. The company also announced the new theme creator called MUSE. MUSE allows you to create Themes with rich animations and dynamic content easily without complex coding.
The ROM also comes with 10 pre-set HD wallpapers available on Daily Lock screen for rotation. A wider selection is available on the International wallpaper market and this is currently limited to India.
2. Performance and Battery Life:
Two of the most important feature requests were for performance and battery life improvement. MIUI 7 optimized system app start up time vastly. MIUI 7 optimizes system response time by loading data and app animation in parallel. That’s a 30% speed increase that’s immediately noticeable, and surprisingly fast.
So overall, there is 30% improvement in performance with MIUI 7.
Apps consume as much as 48% battery on standby by accessing GPS, network data and Wi-Fi scanning. By individually optimising popular apps, MIUI 7 improves battery life by 25%, giving you 3 hours extended use each day.
There is also XXL Text on MIUI 7, format that adjusts conversation layouts, line breaks to provide greater readability, unlike those found in other interfaces.
Apart from these options, the new ROM will be able to group all your baby photos into an album and use this album as lock screen wallpaper.
3. Security:
If your child is using your phone and messing up with things, there is new Child Mode. You can now childproof your phone with Child Mode, which limits access to personal information like emails and messages, while keeping restless kids entertained with apps that you approve and manage in Settings.
4. Privacy:
MIUI 7 will also take care of your privacy. If you are a Mi Band user, here is some great news for you. MIUI lets you sleep easy with Mi Band, which switches your phone to Do Not Disturb (DND) mode when it detects that you’re asleep.
5. Visual IVR:
Back at the launch of Mi4i, the company had announced Visual IVR. You can now skip annoying voice prompts with Interactive Visual Response (IVR). Available on for banking, booking air tickets and more from 50 Indian partners including Citibank, ICICI bank, Spicejet, Indigo, Tata Sky, HeroMotoCorp, and more.
6. Data Compression:
MIUI 7 partners with Opera Max to provide Data Saver. It compresses browser and in-app media, letting you save up to 50% of data usage. Rolls out in September 2015 in China, India, Brasil, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and Philippines.
MIUI 7 will be available for current devices in India. The beta version will be available on Monday (24 August), you can get your hands on MIUI 7 by flashing the developer ROM. Devices supported are: Redmi 1S, Redmi 2, Mi 3/4/4i, Redmi Note 3G/4G.
