Obi Mobiles which came to India last year has now been rebranded as Obi Worldphone and the company has announced two new devices at an event in San Francisco today. The new phones announced are Obi SF1 and SJ1.5. The new SF1 is the flagship device for the company and it comes with focus on design. Both the phones are designed by Ammunition, the company based in San Francisco which is pretty well known.
The Obi SF1 features a 5 inch Full HD display which is raised and features Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. It has a Unibody design with metallic accents and floating (“raised “) glass display. The device is powered by Snapdragon 615 Octa core chipset which is a 64 bit processor coupled with 2GB RAM (3GB for 32GB variant).
The phone comes in 16GB and 32GB storage sizes which is expandable via micro SD card. On the imaging front the phone has 13MP rear camera with LED flash with F/2.0 aperture and there is also 5MP front camera with flash for selfies and video calls.
The phone runs on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop with a custom UI called LifeSpeed. The device also comes with 3000mAh battery. The battery is capable of Qualcomm Quick Charge 1.0 technology which enables quick charging. The phone also has 4G LTE support along with other connectivity options.
The Obi SJ1.5 is a budget offering which features a 5 inch HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and is powered by MediaTek MT6580 Quad core processor with 1GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. On the imaging front, the phone has 8MP rear camera with flash and a 5MP front camera for selfies.
SJ1.5 runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop and features a 3000mAh battery. Unlike the SF1, the SJ1.5 is a 3G phone and it does not feature LTE.
Price and Availability:
The SF1 is priced $199 for the 2GB RAM and 16GB variant and $249 for the 3GB RAM and 32GB variant. On the other hand the SJ1.5 is priced $129. The Obi Worldphone line will be available starting in October in retail stores in some countries and online in others. Initial Obi Worldphone markets will be those with rapidly growing youth populations including Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, South Africa, Pakistan, Turkey and India.
