Few weeks back, Samsung announced the next budget smartphone in the J series, the J2 after announcing the mid range phone J5 and J7 last month. The Samsung Galaxy J2 comes with a 4.7 inch qHD (960 X 540 p) Super AMOLED display and is powered by an Quad Core Exynos processor coupled with 1GB RAM. The internal storage on the device is 8GB and is expandable via micro SD card.
The phone also comes with 5MP rear camera with LED flash and 2MP front camera. The phone is powered by Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with a 2000mAh battery. Here is the unboxing of the device along with the first impressions.
Here is the unboxing video of the device.
Inside the box:
- Samsung Galaxy J2
- 2000mAh Battery
- Earphone
- Standard charger
- Manuals and warranty
Design wise, Samsung had maintained the same design language of J5 and J7 and nothing is changed here. The phone has chrome finishing all round the device and has power key on the right side and the volume key is on the left side. The top portion houses the 3.5mm jack and the bottom panel has the micro USB charging slot. The phone comes with removable rear panel with a matte finish which is quite good and we would say better than the Galaxy J5. The rear panel has 5MP camera, LED flash and the duos branding and speaker unit.
The front panel has three buttons with physical home button and capacitive back and multi tasking button. The 2MP front camera and the sensors are on the top of the 4.7 inch display. Overall, while the design isn’t anything inspiring or standout from Samsung, the rear panel quality looks much better.
The phone has the 4.7 inch SUPER AMOLED qHD display which means the resolution is 960 X 540 pixels and this is one step ahead of the J1 which has a WVGA display. Since the display is sAMOLED, it is pretty colorful and vivid and looks saturated. The touch response was just average and was sticky to our liking. Even though most of the devices in this price point comes with HD displays, the qHD panel on J2 will not disappoint you.
The device is powered by Exynos Quad core processor with 1GB RAM and runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. On top of Lollipop there is the custom Touchwiz UI from Samsung. The performance in the first usage was good and no lags were noticed. The phone has 8GB storage and is expandable via micro SD card. There is 4.38 GB of storage available in the first boot which is quite good. Although there is SD card expansion, we don’t think you will be able to install apps on SD card directly since this feature was missing on J5 and J7.
The phone has 5MP rear camera and a front 2MP camera. The camera interface is a similar to other J series phones and comes with good features, modes and other options. The HDR mode (rich tone) was missing on this device. We will have the detailed camera review soon, so stay tuned. The phone also ships with 2000mAh battery which should be good enough for a 4.7 inch device. It also comes with dual SIM card and 4G LTE support.
The device is priced Rs 8499 and available in Samsung stores across the country. We will have the detailed review coming up on our blog soon, meanwhile do check out our YouTube channel for more videos on this device.
