A few months back, Xiaomi announced their new budget phablet, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2. The Redmi Note 2 is the successor of the popular Redmi Note which was announced last year. The device comes with impressive specs and features a 5.5 inch Full HD display which is an upgrade from HD display on the Redmi Note. The device is powered by the flagship Helio X10 Octa-core chipset which is clocked at 2.0Ghz and features 2GB RAM.
The phone also comes with 16GB internal storage which is expandable via micro SD card. Here is the unboxing and first impressions of the Redmi Note 2.
Here is the unboxing video.

- USB Cable
- Charger
Design wise, the Redmi Note 2 looks a lot like the first generation Redmi Note, but Xiaomi has tweaked the design and made it slimmer, lighter and a bit smaller giving a great feel in the hand. The build quality has also improved with new matte finish plastic which feels like Redmi 2 Prime and Mi4i. The rear panel has a circular camera unit along with LED flash, Mi logo and speaker located at the bottom. The power and volume keys are on the right side and 3.5 mm audio jack sits on the top while the micro USB charging slot is at the bottom. There is also an IR blaster on the top which is handy.
The front panel had the 5.5 inch Full HD display, front camera, three capacitive backlit buttons and the usual set of sensors. Overall, the Redmi Note 2 is a big improvement in terms of build quality and also the design tweaks and gives it a premium feel overall.
The display is one of the biggest improvements on the Redmi Note 2 and it now comes with a 1080p Full HD display with 401ppi. The colors look pretty good and the display is vibrant as well. The touch response is also very good. The company has not mentioned whether there is any protection on the display. The viewing angles are also good.
The phone also comes with 16GB internal storage which is expandable via micro SD card. The storage available in the first boot is around 11.5GB. The phone also comes with a 3060mAh removable battery.
The phone is powered by a MTK6795 Mediatek Helio X10 Octa-core processor coupled with 2GB of RAM. This is the flagship processor from Mediatek and the performance was very good in the initial usage. There was no lag and the UI was extremely responsive. While Redmi Note 2 comes with MIUI 7 on top of Android 5.0, our unit had MIUI 6, but we could easily install MIUI 7.
The phone also packs a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera for selfies and video calls. We will have detailed camera review soon, so stay tuned.
The device is priced USD 140 (starting) and Everbuying.net sent us a unit for reviewing. You can pick all the three models from Everbuying.net. We will have the detailed review coming up on our blog soon, meanwhile do check out our YouTube channel for more videos on this device.
