Xiaomi has announced the third generation in the Redmi series, the Xiaomi Redmi 3. The Xiaomi Redmi 3 is a major upgrade in terms of hardware and specs when compared to previous generation Redmi 2. The new Redmi 3 comes with all metal body similar to the Redmi Note 3.
The new Redmi 3 comes with 5 inch HD display (1280 X 720P) and it runs on the new Snapdragon 616 Octa Core chipset ( 4×1.5GHz + 4×1.2GHz ) coupled with 2GB of RAM.
The phone also comes with 16GB internal storage which is expandable to 128GB via micro SD card. The camera on the Redmi 3 has been upgraded from 8MP to 13MP. The rear camera has 13 MP, 0.1s ultra-fast PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus), LED flash and a 5 MP front camera for selfies.
The rear panel of the phone comes with a pattern and metal build is first of its kind on a budget device. The phone is 8.5mm in thickness and weighs 144g. The phone comes with dual Hybrid SIM card and supports 4G LTE.
Another important aspect of the device is the massive 4100mAh battery which should be great for a budget smartphone. The new Redmi Note 3 also comes with similar battery capacity. The Redmi 3 comes with MIUI 7 on top of Android Lollipop.
The Redmi 3 is priced at 699 Yuan (106 USD) and will be available in China from January 12th. We expect this device to come to India as well.
