Xiaomi’s flagship phone, the Mi5 has been in rumors and speculations for quite some time now. The last phone in the series was launched way back in June 2014 and it has been almost 1.5 years. The company launched two powerful devices in the Note series last year, the Mi Note and Mi Note Pro.
The company has now confirmed that the next flagship device, the Mi5 will launch on February 24th and it is expected to happen in Beijing, China.
The new Mi5 is expected to come with a 5.2 inch QHD display and is powered by the newly launched Snapdragon 820 Octa core chipset. Apart from this, the device also comes with 4GB of RAM (expect a lower variant with 3GB RAM). The phone has a 16MP primary camera, an 13MP front camera, USB Type-C port and also supports NFC.
The battery capacity is at 3600mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0. The phone will run on MIUI 7 with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The device is expected to come in white and black color variants. The phone will also come with a fingerprint scanner integrated into the home button.
2015 has not been a great year for Xiaomi especially with no major releases and the missed sales target. Huawei has been growing steadily in China and Xiaomi hasn’t been able to keep up with the growth. With the launch of Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and Redmi 3 with impressive specs, the company is hoping to achieve more growth especially in markets outside China where Xiaomi has a good share.
