YU had announced their flagship phone, the Yutopia in December with impressive specs including Snapdragon 810 processor with 4GB RAM. The Yutopia runs on custom software, Cyanogen OS based on Android 5.1.1. When we reviewed the Yutopia, we found that while the hardware is good, the biggest issue is the software which had lot of bugs and crashes. Along with this, the fingerprint scanner response is pretty poor.
Now the company, is rolling out OTA updates for this device and the update brings a few security-focussed changes to the phone.
The following are the changes.
- The fingerprint reader now allows for five attempts. Previous version only allowed for three.
- When the user reaches five failed attempts the fingerprint reader will time out for 15 seconds. The user will feel multiple vibrations from the reader on the final failed attempt letting them know to unlock their device.
- After 15 seconds the user can again attempt to unlock the device with the finger print sensor.
- After 5 unsuccessful attempts user can unlock the device with Password/PIN.
Software details:
Cyanogen OS version: 12.1
Android OS version: 5.1.1
Software version: YOG4PAS5W0
The update will be rolled out in phases, over the coming two weeks. This is definitely good news for Yutopia users.
