TCL owned Alcatel, has announced two new premium devices at the MWC 2016, the Idol 4 and Idol 4S. These are upgrades over the Idol 3 series launched last year. The company also seems to be dropping the OneTouch logo from the devices and they are just Alcatel Idol 4 Series.
The pricer of the two is the Idol 4S which comes with a 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display and is powered by the Snapdragon 652 SoC and coupled with 3GB of RAM. The phone also comes with 32GB of storage, 3000mAh battery and the device has dimensions of 153.9 x 75.4 x 6.99mm.
The Idol 4 on the other hand comes with a 5.2 inch Full HD IPS LCD display and is powered by Snapdragon 617 SoC with 3GB of RAM. The storage on this device is 16GB. The battery capacity of the Idol 4 is at 2610mAh.
Idol 4 and Idol 4S comes with Marshmallow out of the box and supports micro SD card for expansion of storage. Both the phones are equipped with a dedicated “Boom Key,” which the company says can perform different functions based on the app currently being used and it can also call up the camera from standby.
On the imaging front, both the phones have 8MP front camera for selfies and video calls. The Idol 4S has a 16MP camera unit, while the Idol 4 comes with 13MP camera. The 16MP camera on Idol 4S is also capable of 4k video recording.
The Idol 4S can also be doubled as a VR headset, could be similar to what we saw on Lenovo’s Vibe K4 Note.
The devices come in four colors – Gold, Dark Gray, Rose Gold, and Metal Silver. The company says that the phone will be available in second quarter of 2016 and the expected pricing is 450 Euro for 4S and 280 Euros for Idol 4.
