Samsung has finally announced the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge at the Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona putting an end to rumors and leaks about the device. The device were annoounced at the Unpacked 2016 event at Barcelona.
Samsung has almost retained the similar design language as that of Galaxy S6 launched last year and comes with metal finish with a 3D curve gloss back. The new Samsung Galaxy S7 will come with a 5.1 inch Quad HD Display which has a Super AMOLED panel with 2560×1440 resolution and 577PPI. The Galaxy S7 Edge on the other hand comes with a bigger 5.5 inch Quad HD display.
The device is powered by either a Snapdragon 820 processor clocked at 2.15Ghz or an Exynos Octa Core chipset clocked at 2.3Ghz and coupled with 4GB of RAM.
The storage available is 32GB and unlike the Galaxy S6, the new S7 features micro SD expansion slot as well. On the imaging front the phones comes with 12MP rear camera with f/1.7 and dual pixel sensor, generally found on DSLR. The front camera is at 5MP. The rear camera comes with Smart OIS. On the software side, the phones come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Samsung’s touchwiz UI.
Both the devices are IP68 dust and water resistant. While the S7 features a 3000mAh battery, the S7 Edge comes with 3600mAh battery which is considerable increase from last year’s capacity of 2550 and 2600 respectively. There is also wireless charging included on these devices along with fast charging. On the connectivity front, the phones come with Bluetooth version 4.2 LE, ANT+, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4/5GHz), and USB 2.0. The company has skipped the USB C type port, but included NFC for payments.
The new phones will come in three colors: Silver titanium, black onyx, and gold platinum. Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge will be available starting mid-March 2016.
The Galaxy S7 is priced £569 while the S7 Edge costs £639.
