Last year, Huawei had launched the Nexus device, the Nexus 6P which was considered one of the best flagship devices around. Now the company has announced the next flagships under the P Series- the Huawei P9 and P9 Plus. The speciality of these flagship devices is the dual 12MP camera set up which is co-developed with German optics specialist Leica. While one of the cameras can identify colors, the second one sees only black and white.
The Huawei P9 comes with a 5.2 inch Full HD display with the powerful Kirin 955 chipset which is an in house Octa core processor.
There are two variants for the P9, one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage and the second one is 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. The phone runs on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) with Huawei Emotion UI. It comes with a fingerprint scanner located on the rear panel.
The rear camera is a 12MP dual rear one with Leica SUMMARIT lens coupled with dual tone LED flash and laser auto focus. There is also an 8MP front camera for selfies. On the connecitbity front, it comes with 4G LTE, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, NFC and USB Type-C charger. It also comes with dual SIM card while micro SD card is missing. In some markets, where the device comes in single SIM card, there is also support for micro SD card. The battery capacity is at 3000mAh.
The P9 Plus is a slightly more premium device with a bigger 5.5 inch Full HD display. It is powered by same processor but coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. The P9 Plus will also feature the pressure sensitive touch display which the company calls as Press Touch. It also has a bigger capacity battery at 3,400mAh.
Huawei P9 is priced at €599 for 3GB/32GB version and €649 for the 4GB/64GB variant. The P9 Plus has a slightly more premium pricing and it sells at a €100 premium for a total of €749. The smaller model will be available starting April 16 and 29 countries in Europe and the Middle East. The P9 Plus will be available starting May 20th.
