Back in December 2015, Gionee had launched a flagship product under the Marathon series which are known for huge battery capacity. The Gionee Marathon M5 Plus comes with a 6-inch (1920× 1080 pixels) Full HD AMOLED display with 2.5D arc glass and this is bigger than the 5.5 inch on M5. It is powered by 1.3GHz Octa-Core MediaTek MT6753 64-bit processor with Mali-T720 GPU.
The phone has 3GB of RAM and comes with 64GB internal storage. Here are the unboxing and first impressions of the device.

Design wise, the Gionee Marathon M5 Plus is a sleek looking device. Even though it comes with a massive 6-inch display, Gionee has managed to keep the thickness on the lower side, making it usable. Despite this, the phone weighs 208gms and cannot be used with one hand. The phone comes with a metallic construction and one of the first devices to sport the new Gionee Logo in India. The front panel has 6 inches Full HD display, a physical home button which is also integrated fingerprint scanner and two capacitive buttons for back and multitasking.
On the right side, we have the power and volume keys along with the micro SD card slot. On the left, you have the dual SIM card tray. The bottom section has the USB C Type port and audio jack. The rear panel of the device has a slightly curved finish from the edges. The rear panel has 13MP camera, LED flash, Gionee Logo and speaker unit located at the bottom.
While the build quality is very good, M5 Plus is not recommended for people with small hands as it feels and weighs huge.
Gionee Marathon M5 Plus sports a 6 inch Full HD (1080p) display which has an AMOLED panel. The colors look pretty vivid and punchy which is a quality of AMOLED panels. The touch response is also pretty good and so are the viewing angles. Overall, even with a 6-inch panel, it does not look like a stretched one.
The phone is powered by Mediatek MT6753 Octa-core chipset clocked at 1.3Ghz coupled with Mali-T720MP3 GPU and 3GB of RAM. In our initial testing, the device was quite responsive. On the software side, it has Android 5.1 Lollipop with Amigo UI 3.1. The UI looks more or less similar to what we saw on Gionee S6. The phone comes with 13MP rear shooter and 5MP front shooter. We will have detailed video review of the camera, so stay tuned.
There is 64 internal storage available which is also expandable, so you do not have to worry about running out of storage.
On the connectivity front, it has 4G+, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, Infrared and USB C Type charging cable. Now, the most important aspect, the battery. The phone has 5020 mAh nonremovable battery which should last at least 1.5 days or more. We will have a detailed review of the performance later on. The device is priced Rs 26,999 and available across retail stores in India.
We will have a detailed review of the phone coming soon, so stay tuned for more updates on the same.
