Earlier this year HP had announced a couple of new printers in the GT series and one of them is the GT 5820. HP DeskJet GT is an affordable printer which is ideal for small businesses using inkjet technology and it has ink tanks placed outside. It also comes with wireless printing technology that can print thousands of pages affordably.
HP DeskJet GT 5820’s aim is to make high quality and reliable printing more affordable. In this post, we take a detailed look into the printer to see how it performs in the real world.
Features of GT 5820:
- Functions: Print, copy, scan, wireless
- Extremely low cost per page (Black: 9paise, Color: 19paise); Print up to 8,000 pages with a set of three HP colour bottles or up to 5,000 pages with an HP black bottle
- Wi-Fi Direct printing; Print from a variety of mobile devices; Easy setup from mobile device
- Spill-free Replenishment system
Design and Build:
The HP DeskJet GT 5820 has an interesting design with ink bottles placed outside instead of the traditional method of keeping it inside. The ink tanks are placed on the right side with a locking mechanism to prevent spills in case you are moving the printer. Each of the ink tanks is sealed and ink could be easily filled by simply plugging the three ink bottles into it. You can place the ink bottle inverted and it flows smoothly into the tank.
The top panel has a good matte finish panel with good quality materials. On the left side, you have the small LCD screen which is simple and easy to operate. The top panel also houses the scanner. You can pull open the front panel to insert the cartridges. Below it, you have the tray to receive the printed papers. The input tray for paper is placed next to the scanner area. Overall, while the design isn’t compact comparing to other all-in-one printers, it has good build quality.
You also need to be careful while handling the printer from one desk to another even though it has a spill proof mechanism. The printer comes with 1 black bottle, set of 3 color bottles which are priced Rs 498 for each bottle.
Features:
It comes with the ability to scan, print, copy documents and images. Since it has Wi-fi, you can always print wirelessly without having to configure with the cable. You can manage printing tasks and scan on the go with the free HP All-in-One Printer Remote mobile app which is very easy to use.
It features wireless direct and local Wi-Fi connectivity to enable mobile printing via HP ePrint and other solutions. It supports paper sizes of A4 , B5, A6, DL envelope. Printing and scanning documents using the mobile application is effortless and works very well.
Printing Speed and Quality:
The company claims that the printer can do 8ppm when using black and white option. When we tested, we managed to get around 6-7 PPM with black and white and 4-5 pages when printing color pages which is quite decent for a printer in this segment. If you opt for high-quality print, it takes a lot of time to print it out, but the results are impressive.
The maximum quality of printing is at 4800 x 1200 optimized dpi color (when printing from a computer on selected HP photo papers and 1200 input dpi) and up to 1200 x 1200 rendered dpi for black prints.
The flatbed scanner is also very good and is efficient. We tested the print quality with multiple color and black and white print. We managed to get quite impressive print quality and especially the color prints on photo paper came out excellent with great color quality. The black prints were sharp and dark and the ink dried up pretty quickly. The prints also have the ability of resist water and fading.
Since it can print quite high volumes, the cost of black print comes to 9 paise while the color comes to 19 paise which makes it really affordable printer.
Verdict:
HP Deskjet GT 5820 All-in-One printer is priced at an MRP of INR 14670, but it is now available for Rs 13,490. This printer is a great affordable printer for small businesses looking for long-term usage as it can go high volume without having to replace the inks frequently. And since the cost of print is very low, the cost of ownership is minimum. The printer is also quite compact even though the ink tanks are placed outside.
The printer can also be suited for home usage where print jobs are higher. You can buy this printer from here.

- High-quality printing
