Vivo has announced their latest mid-range phone, the Vivo V5. This phone comes after the success of Vivo V3 and Vivo V3 Max. Vivo V5 has the USP of 20MP front facing selfie camera, first of its kind in India. Vivo claims that the front 20MP camera with moonlight selfie flash gets you the best selfies.
On the specs front, it comes with a 5.5 inch 720p (HD) display and runs on MediaTek Octa core 6750 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. We have been using the device for past 4 days and here are our first impression of the Vivo V5.
Here is the unboxing video of the device.
Design wise, the Vivo V5 comes with a unibody design with metallic construction and feels quite good. The device is pretty slim and light weight as well and gives a good feel in hands. The rear panel has matte finish and curved edges with Vivo logo engraved on it. It also has the 13MP rear camera and LED flash. The power and volume buttons are placed on the right side while the SIM tray is on the left side. The bottom panel houses the 3.5mm jack, micro USB slot and the speaker unit.
The front panel has 20MP camera up top along with moonlight flash, usual set of sensors and 5.5 inch HD display. The company is also shipping the device with a tempered glass protector on it. Below the display, there is the fingerprint scanner which is a capacitive button and also acts as home button along with back and multi tasking button on either sides. Overall, in looks department, Vivo V5 does look good even though it is not a stand out design by any means.
The phone comes with a 5.5 inch HD display (1280 X 720p) and the display looks quite decent with 294PPI. The colors are good and so are the viewing angles. We are assuming there is no protection offered on the display and for that reason the company is already providing a tempered glass. The package also comes with a back cover.
On the processor side, the phone is powered by a MediaTek Octa core chipset MT6750 coupled with Mali 860GPU and 4GB of RAM. There is also 32GB of storage. In day to day tasks, the phone performed quite well with no issues. We are yet to try out the gaming performance and also if there is a heating on the phone.
The phone runs on Funtouch OS 2.6 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The UI is quite similar to what other Chinese OEMs offer with no app drawer and it comes with multiple home screens.
Now coming to the USP of the device, the 20MP selfie camera with moonlight flash. The phone can record videos in full HD using both the rear and front cameras. The company claims, the front camera for selfie lovers comes with the ‘Moonlight Glow’ feature to make every selfie splendid and flawless. The front camera performance came out mixed with some good captures and also few of them over exposed. The rear camera performed quite well under daylight conditions, but had noise in low light and the images were over sharpened.
We tested the camera of the device in different light conditions (front and rear) and here are some of the samples taken with the device. We will have a detailed camera review later.
Vivo V5 also comes with the custom built AK4376 Hi-Fi audio chip that provides good sound quality experience by giving a signal-to- noise ratio of up to 115dB. The fingerprint scanner performance was very good and it unlocked in device in quick time without any issues.
The phone also packs a 3000mAh battery but there is no fast charging, but it comes with 5V, 2A charger. There is also support for USB OTG out of the box. The device is priced Rs 17980 in India and will be available in retail stores starting November 26. We will have the detailed review of the device coming up soon.
