Moto and Lenovo has announced their latest mid-range premium smartphone in India, the Moto Z2 Play. Similar to the previous generation, the new Moto Z2 Play is banking heavily on the Moto Mods concept which adds additional functionality for the device. The Moto Z2 Play has a 5.5 inch Full HD display and is powered by the new Snapdragon 626 Octa core processor coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage.
The phone also comes with new camera optics and is similar to Moto G5 plus and sports a 12MP camera with dual Pixel auto focus, dual tone dual LED flash and a 5MP front camera. The battery size has been reduced to 3000mAh and it comes with turbo charging. Here are our first impressions of the device.
The Moto Z Play which was released last year came with aluminum frame with glass finishing. The Moto Z2 Play has the design language similar to the predecessor but it is more of refined design which makes the device slimmer and lighter than Z Play. It now comes with a metal unibody design made from aircraft grade aluminum similar to Moto G5 Plus. The build quality of the device is top notch and feels premium. It is extremely slim to hold and use at 5.9mm. There is a major projection for the camera unit which is a 12MP unit with laser autofocus and dual LED flash. The power and volume keys are on the right side and comes with good feedback. The top houses the SIM tray while the bottom has USB C type charging and data syncing port along with 3.5mm audio jack. The rear panel has the Moto logo and at the bottom you can see the option to attach the mods to the device.
The front panel has 5.5 inch Full HD display which is an AMOLED panel similar to Z Play. The display is also protected by Gorilla Glass and has a 2.5D glass. The display quality looks good and the viewing angles are also good. The brightness levels is also good. Above the display you have the front speaker and the 5MP front camera with color corrected flash, which means it is a dual tone dual LED flash. Below the display is the fingerprint scanner which can be doubled as back and multi tasking button with the Moto app.
Overall, the phone feels great in terms of design and build.
