Vivo has announced their latest flagship smartphone, the Nex in India. The Vivo Nex is a premium offering from Vivo and packs top of the line hardware along with a lot of innovative features. It is also one of the few flagship devices to omit the notch and go for an elevating selfie camera, which is an industry first. It also packs the in-display fingerprint scanner, yet another innovation we saw first from Vivo on the X21. So, if you are looking to buy the new Vivo Nex, here are the 7 awesome features which make it a great flagship smartphone.
1. Design and Build:
The Vivo Nex features a metal and glass construction with the back panel having a curved glass with a pattern. The rear glass panel has nano-precision laser engraving to carve tens of thousands of dynamic color diffraction units. Four optical diffractive surfaces are cut onto each unit, and the nano-scale line arrangement of each surface has been repeatedly tested. This not only gives the device a futuristic look, it is excellent in terms of the build quality as well.
2. Display:
Vivo Nex has a 6.59-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display with 19.3:9 aspect ratio. The display also has a stunning 91.24% screen to body ratio and gets you an almost bezel-less experience. The Nex has extremely slim bezels and the display quality is superb with rich colors and great viewing angles. The device does not have a notch and hence the experience is even better than other smartphones in this segment.
3. Elevating Camera:
In 2018, one of the new features to have arrived on the smartphone is the notch. While the notch gives you more screen space, it has one of the features which has not been accepted well. In order to remove the notch, Vivo has gone in for an elevating selfie camera, which is an industry first. When you want to take a selfie, it elevates and then retracts automatically once you close the camera app. This is one of the truly innovative features of Vivo Nex.
4. In-Display Fingerprint scanner:
Vivo Nex comes with the in-display fingerprint scanner which makes the design easier without the need for allotting a separate place on the rear panel or below the display for a fingerprint scanner. We have seen this technology used in Vivo X21 and the Nex also gets a similar fingerprint scanner. The fingerprint scanner is placed on the Super AMOLED display.
Configuring the fingerprint scanner is quite easy and it is similar to how you configure it on other smartphones. Once the fingerprint is registered and when the user touches the screen for unlocking, the OLED display emits light to illuminate the finger which is placed on the display. The fingerprint scanner captures the fingerprint with the light reflected and the sensor then processes the optical signals to deliver crisp and sharp fingerprint images for matching.
When the phone is lifted by the user for unlocking, the display shows the area for unlocking and an icon will appear on the display. While the phone is in the pocket, this icon will not lit up. The fingerprint scanner experience is also smooth.
5. Excellent Performance:
Vivo Nex is powered by top of line Snapdragon 845 SoC and coupled with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. This makes sure that you get the best performance from the device. The Snapdragon 845 utilizes the CPU resources for complex AI and neural computing and the most powerful chipset we have right now for smartphones.
Vivo Nex also comes with AI Game mode which will automatically set the CPU to optimize for the best gaming experience. Further, it also makes sure that you are not interrupted while gaming.
6. Massive Battery:
While most of the flagship smartphones have powerful hardware, they often tend to ignore the battery. This is one area where the Vivo Nex is a superior performer. With the massive 4000mAh battery, you can easily get more than a day of battery life and the 22W fast charging ensures that you get almost 90% of battery in under 1 hour, which is an impressive performance.
7. Great Dual Camera:
Vivo Nex packs a dual camera, a primary 12MP camera with F/1.8 aperture, 5MP secondary depth-sensing camera and an 8MP front camera with f/2.0. The rear camera has a Sony IMX363 lens (6P with sapphire crystal surface), along with 4-
axis optical image stabilization (OIS) and electronic image stabilization (EIS). The camera has a dual pixel sensor and with the larger photographic area of each pixel, the phone is able to provide excellent picture quality. It also comes with AI and it can detect and identify 18 tags and 140 scenarios such as portraits, food, and plants as it shoots. Apart from this, the camera also features face beauty, HDR, scene detection and more. Here are some samples from the device.
