Sony as a smartphone brand hasn’t been able to garner much sales and they have not been able to sell in good numbers even though they had a decent number of flagship phones. But in 2018, Sony was a major topic of discussion, thanks to the IMX586 sensor. The Sony IMX586 is the flagship sensor of Sony which also was the first 48MP sensor and was used in a lot of smartphones launched in 2018. We have seen this sensor on flagship phones as well as mid range phones. Now Sony is about to announce the 64MP Sony IMX686 sensor.
Sony has been teasing this sensor on social platforms with a new video. This new sensor will have 64MP capabilities and will be probably similar to Samsung’s GW1 sensor which was features on Redmi Note 8 Pro and few other phones.
While we do not have any information on the sensor nor its aperture values, we can expect some really good quality considering that IMX586 sensor was a really good one. We also know that Xiaomi’s Redmi K30 will be the first smartphone to sport this sensor as the company has been teasing it.
Sony has also confirmed that this sensor will be available in smartphones launching in 2020. Here are some samples shot with the new sensor (these images are picked from the video and not in full resolution.)
